Girls talk..

She writes...

Did you know? Girls talk. Don't give me the look now. I mean, they talk TALK. You see, If you pick the most silent girl from the gang, she would still beat the most talktive boy picked from a bunch of guys. Thats the kind of 'talking' am talking about!

Well, Thats what girls are made of. A few extra glands working for the vocal cords. This is not a theory that i accidently stumbled upon in some chic magazine. Every girl knows this. Its a part of our make up. And its SO cool, you guys have no idea. When a girl is talking with her friend she doesn't just talk about bags and buckets. Guys might probably have a hard time understanding what i am going to say next , but they talk about cars to cartoons to computers, gabbana to ghosts to guys(!), rockets to roses and to everything and anything one could possibly imagine. Girls don't necessarily need to know the thing to talk about it. We talk nevertheless. And that precisely breaks the boundaries of our minds to love/hate something based on our individual prespective.

By now, most of you reading this would've probably assumed that am just being euphemistic when i say 'Girl's talk' instead of 'Girl's gossip'. If you did my friend, i am sorry, you got the whole thing wrong. Gossip is to simply wag your tongue speaking about others , revealing secrets or simply discussing their life which is of no concern to you. If you agree with the above definition, then probably all these lovely news channels that we have are basically 'gossiping' all the time. Just like there is a subtle difference between news and gossip, so is one between talk and gossip. Oh by the way, We also gossip. *smiles*

A simple example, when a gang of girls plan a get together, you usually find them looking for a place where they can hang out and also sit down and TALK once the partying is done. Because friends, for us it doesn't just work with video games and F1 races. I am guessing, the maximum a guy communicates with his friend while watching a match is when asking him to pass the snack. Am not saying its wrong to not talk. In fact i think its the best equation among us.

Girls tend to get too emotional when they talk. They can't help it. They need that extra ounce of emotion coupled with a complex thought process to be able to convey a simple message across. Guys dont have to do that. They just never think.*winks*. No, seriously, If you are a girl and you have a good friend in a guy, consider yourself lucky because you just have to talk to your guy friend to forget all your problems. Thats because when you try to tell them your problem , they are probably not listening and so in turn they end up giving you an advice which in the first place you know yourself. So your having a laugh and the guy is feeling triumphant at his extraordinary talent. Now your laughing again.

And if you are a guy and you happen to have a good friend in a girl, consider yourself a zillion times luckier. Come on, you guys can't be friends with a girl that easy. You are either flirting with her or being a showboat just for the heck of it. That's why the zillion times. Try opening up to your girl friend (not your girlfriend, thats suicidal :-) !!) atleast once in your life, you would know. This is what happens, you blackout for sometime and when you gain consciousness you have no idea what your problems were. (Just dont add a new problem by falling for your girl pal, dude!) They might not have given you solutions to your problems, (even if they did you guys are too chauvinistic to follow them anyway so who are we kidding, right?) but you just threw all your burdens away. That feeling of weightlessness is all you need to understand why a girl listens AND talks.

Its nothing really..

Wow, it feels great to just write the words "She writes.." ! Just so you know, i've started to write this blog simply because i had NOTHING better to do. But the problem is that I seem to do only 'nothing' these days. So writing the blog is probably the best thing that i'm doing in a very long time. Ha, gotcha !

Its funny you know, every night when i go to bed the last thing that i'm thinking is about a new topic to be discussed in my next blog. No, i am not kidding. I really do think about stuff, serious stuff when the lights go out and am in the bed. ( Did i just hear your mind say, " Duh! Everyone does" ) . But they just disperse like dreams the next morning. Sometimes i wonder if they were the dreams themselves. Anyway as i was saying, i'm thinking real stuff, like economy crisis, terrorism, obama, test cricket, Chandrayaan etc etc but none of them seem to have made it to the page. Interestingly, the reason is not too complicated to analyse either. I am lazy.
I guess its just human to be crazy and passionate about a newbie at the begining and eventually let go as days pass by, unlesss i'm earning a whopping 30 grand a month for every blog i write. :-)  . Probably a thing like that would make me want to visit my blog everyday, huh ? OR would it ?

Anyway, i have successfully completed my NIIT certification. I wouldn't call it hardtime but the module exams were certainly a pain. I'm just glad its over. Eh, actually No, i don't think am 'really' glad its over. They were the only source of reason for me to grab my peppy and roam around the streets of Pondy bazaar every afternoon every day. I'll certainly be missing the rides i guess. I also took a sojourn to Hyderabad. It was good, although very tiring. Apparently a five day stay in a city like Hyderabad does not sound very 'holidayey'.
Happened to watch 'Roadside Romeo'. Was good. It was like seeing a tribute (Read Spoof!) from Yash Raj productions to all the previous Yash Raj productions. God, they must like themselves a lot.
Diwali, this year was the most sober one i've ever celebrated. No, nothing bad happened but nothing great happened as well. It was boring. Period.

So i guess i've done justice to october with two blogs to its credit. Though, this time the three week gap between the previous blog and this one does not seem all that bad. In fact, i am hardly even guilty. For the simple reason being, I don't have ANYTHING to blog, because its NOTHING really.

Oh and before i forget, Happy diwali you guys ! I hope you had a blast. :-)

Sathyam forever...

She writes...

Before you start judging this blog with the title as reference , let me tell you this, its got squat to do with any new "K(B)(T)ollywood" movie. And am not Gandhian enough to write a blog about his teachings either. ( Not even if it was Oct 2nd today! ) .

I'm just a hugely crazy fan of our very own 'Sathyam Cinemas' in Chennai. For guys from outside, its THE best multiplex theatre in Chennai.
My tryst with Sathyam did only start from the year 2004 , although i have been in Chennai from long before. I've seen like a million movies with my dad all those years, but somehow none of them happened in Sathyam. A very simple reason , "Its too far deeps" is what he says when i ask ( He was right in a way, especially when we have a dumb dumb theatre at a stone's throw distance from our place. The practical man that my dad is, he would've only wanted to SEE the movie than enjoy the theatre) . Too bad too far !
And its not like i was very aware of all the Hot and chic places in Chennai those days . I was just the normal girl having normal fun with normal friends and with a normal GK on the geography of Chennai. Back then, i would'nt have known one road from another. The only divine route that i followed was from my home to the school. Wasn't i good ?

Twelfth, the most glorious period of our lives, was when i first heard about this theatre. I don't exactly remember who, but some normal friend of mine apparently did have a greater vision. I did not like the name of the theatre, I still remember. I mean who would think a theatre named "Sathyam" was going to be any cool at all ? IMAX yeah, INOX yeah, PVR yeah but 'Sathyam' neah. And i was right. One good look at the theatre and i was like "So small" and "no compound walls" ? I would've made the architect of that building look like a doofus if only i had met him that day. I guess i was more concerned about paying a 100 bucks for a movie !!
But HELL was i wrong. The cinema hall was so damn refreshing. Just the right acoustics, a perfect lighting, comfortable seating, a clean eatery and most of all NO RATS !! I think that was the first time that i enjoyed a movie more because of the place where i was watching it in.

And so the addiction started. Days have changed. Sometimes i just miss the 'Sathyam experience' so much that i would grab my friends to go watch ANY movie that was playing. The last movie that i watched in Sathyam was 'Saroja'. Its been a long time since i went there and i was really looking forward for it. In fact, everytime that i go there i find atleast one pleasant change. Like a little surprise treat for the special me ( I know, i am dreamy!!). This time it was the ticket counter. They've made it so customer-friendly. Absolutly no hustle-bustle. Guys from sathyam, if your listening "Keep the change going, I love it" !

Anyway, When i think about it now, my views about sathyam has certainly taken a paradigm shift from the year 2004. And for people who know me better, they'll certainly understand my cranky attraction towards non-living things ( Hai Polo and Pepe! ).
Sathyam just grows on you and if there's one thing other than the beach that i'll ever miss in Chennai, It has got to be this theatre. In fact when i think about it, I guess i like sathyam more because its SO small and it has NO compound walls. *smiles*

How long is too long ?!

Guilty as i am, i still ask the question "How long is too long?". Did you miss me blog ?
Yeah right !!

Well, its not like anybody cares but as a diligent blogger i ought to atleast make an attempt to cook an excuse. *smiles* .
You know, My keyboard got cranky after my last post , the letters were replaced with some funny looking symbols. I knew this was the work of the evil satan. ( There, i did it again, i think i have some sort of power to invent such stupid phrases, EVIL SATAN ??!! Jeez ). Anyway, So Keyboard cranky and poor me!

By the time i fixed my keyboard, my fingers started acting funny. Whenever i sat to type a blog, they sort of independently swayed like i was a playing a keyboard ( No, not this one, the 'other' keyboard) . It was magical. Somehow they would work in unison with the tiny mouse and end up playing Madonna or Akon or Carpenters!

And to top it all, my system was kaput. All it wanted me to do was watch movies and movies and more movies. Owing to my academic prowess in computers ( Its so said!! ), i did try to meddle a bit and what do i end up with ? A machine that calls itself a computer but works like a playstation. huh !
So much for calling itself a "Multipurpose information processing electronic device" !!

So you see, i was left with no choice but to courteously follow the system. The prophecy did come true after all. I knew what i had to do. I did as the oracle asked me to, 812 years ago. A knock knock on its head and a "Jadoo ki jappi" to my cpu did the magic. And so... TA DA !

A Letter to my Couch.

She writes...

"Dear Couch, please forgive me. For i can no longer rest in your comfort all day.
I have never truly realised your worth, I must say. I am embarrassed at my lack of attention. All those days when i watched those numerous movies and innumerable news telecasts, little did i realise that you were always there, making me feel so warm and cosy. I still remember, when Kathaleen Kelly wished for Joe Fox to be NY152 and finally realised what she asked for, is all that she was given, God, i couldn't have done without the snuggling pleasure you gave me.

Anyway, As you might have already noticed, for the past 17 days, precisely from august 8th to august 24th, i've been a different person. I've spent more time with you than i've ever spent with my mobile or my computer! ( Which should mean something, 'cause you might not know this but i am apparently crippled without those two ! )
And am sure you have given me enough reasons to rejoice your company in these few days. I enjoyed every single moment that we spent together. All those pop corns that you gracefully adorned, the vacation weight that you had to bear, the crampled paper settled on you, all the dust and dot. Dear couch, I'll always remember those days with you forever. But, there is something i need to confess. There is also an other reason for my smiles.

Oh god, you don't want to hear this. But i have no choice, Its "THE OLYMPICS" ! *heavy sobs*
Yes, The Beijing Olympics completely floored me. I was baffled from day one. I wanted to write to you long before. But i never got a chance to commit. You might feel used , but trust me O couch, you mean more than that. Olympics before beijing never gave me any thrills. And, I knew this one was different from the very start. Just the way it unravelled gave me the goosebumps that lasted days after. As Li Ning opened the traditional scrolls while he spacewalked on the Bird's nest to light the brightest of the Olympic Torch's ever, I felt a heart beat skip.

And then the journey began, From Phelps's to Bindra's to the Jamaican's , it was all magic. I would sound very psychic when i say this but i somehow, somehow always knew that this was going to be one of our most memorable run at the olympics ever. Although, i trusted Sania Nehwal too much. But what's there to complain ? Badminton being one of my local sports i had no choice but to relate to her as opposed to Vijendhar or Jitendhar. But thats where the beauty lies ? right ? Surprise is one of the most wonderful feelings. A most cutest one too. Abhinav Bindra, Sushil kumar and Vijender singh have now become the names that we'll soon be reading in our history books.

Anyway, I do hope that you understand how much i was enamoured by The Beijing Olympics. And You have certainly been the most crucial reason for this eccentric attraction to the games this year. Without you, it would've only been incomplete. I may not spend days and nights with you anymore. But , You were and will always be my best couch.
I don't mean to thank you, but I do. "

Love,
Deepika

PS:- Effects of being single for a long time does have its pros and cons !! :-)

Welcome August...

Come August and everything's the same. How sad is my life? , is exactly what you must be thinking ( If you know me already !! ) *smiles*. But, you know, am not exactly all that bored these days. Thanks to my "I don't care" blogs and my A-one experience in surviving ennui.

Four years after school i was in a snake-pit, yeah I am an Engineer now. And for the past two months after college, I'm having a ball watching all those innumerable movies that i missed out in the theatres for all these years. God, i dont think i've ever liked movies so much. Ranging from the Oscar types to complete commercial romcomcoms, I've seen it all. Will Smith's Hancock was my very own summer special this year (*winks*). Although, being the season of super hero's , i'm yet to watch DarK Knight ( I know i know, I will soon ). And what with all these amazing animation movies, Dreamworks and Pixar have given us their best this time. Go watch Wall-E and Kung-fu Panda if you've not watched it yet. And yeah of course, tardy though it is, but watching all three pirates on the same day does make you fall in love with Captain Jack Sparrow. :-)

With all the time in the world, I also seemed to catch up on sports. How long has it been since i watched a race ? A match ? , I'll never know. Euro 2008 was an absolute treat although i could catch hold of only few matches ( Of course the final is one of them! ) owing to its eerie telecast time. But otherwise, IPL and Euro were such pleasure to watch.
Just when i was starting to get bored of the India/Sri Lanka tests, Olympics is like the manna from heaven!

It has so far been a good vacation for me. I've enjoyed it like never before. I mean, come on, you don't have to sit with any god damn engineering book anymore. No assignments. No Record books. And to top it all, there is someone out there who has actually given you a JOB !!!
It can't get any better. :-)
Of course, I'm yet to watch Kuselan ! I guess that should make my august august...

The Namesake..

Posted by Dpka at 11:24 AM 3 comments
She writes..

It's easily one of your most important assets. Not many, neah, none of us realise how essential it is. It is something that has been yours since your birth, in some cases even before that. Its almost like your first ID into the human world. I am not even going to ask you guys to guess what it is ( like you bother anyway !!) . Its our NAMEs that am talking about.

I know, i must be completely jobless to be writing a blog about NAMES !! ( Dont worry, I am! ). But seriously, did you ever wonder how the idea of naming people came into existence. And even when it did, how did they chose to name after some word or phrase or sound . What if the masterminds had decided to start naming with numbers. He he he, What a thought ?

// Mom shouts at the sight of her mud clad son, "5643 ( Short for 5643.56 ) , Look what you've done to yourself ?! Huh!! "
The Advertisement replied , " Dont worry, 637 hai na !! " //

Actually, we really don't appreciate our identities much . It comes throughout your life. Even if you wanted it or not. You did not chose to have it. Your parents did. And by the time you decide that it does not sound like you , its too late. Sometimes you just dont connect to it. For example, Names like Elizabeth, Alexander, Marcus etc.., really don't sound like an Engineer, Beautician or a Chef. I mean, imagine Alexander The Engineer !!!
But Yeah, there are some people who simply learn to live with it while some give a new meaning to it. Names like Aristrotle or Shakesphere can not be dared to be used again ever ( unless you wanted your kid to grow up in a lifetime of mockery! ) .

Indian names are all the more interesting. The most common observation in the pattern of Indian boy names and girl names would be that, you find almost 99% of the girl names ending with long 'a' or 'i' or 'e' and boy names ending with short 'a' or 'n/m' or 'h' . Well this is mainly because in Sanskrit all the "Streeling" nouns end with vowels. Being one of the most revered language, Indians don't try to mess with the norms. If they did, the name ends up confusing the gender ( Which does not make a very good ID !! ) .

As if this were not enough, we had the surnames attached too. And this is where you start looking beyond the person . This is where things start to go little further about the man, his origin, religion, language etc etc. A totally unneccesary addition. If you did want a fashionable second name , why not keep your fathers name instead or if your rebellious enough why not try your mothers name ?
Starting merely as a demand to identify a person , Names have taken different forms and shapes serving more than just the purpose of its existence. I doubt if the trend would ever change. But , Whatever the name you adorn, live a life that gives a meaning to your name rather than living to satisfy the bounds of your name . Add the suffix -ness to it and give your name a life of its own, a memory that'll never die .

PS :- I spread Deepikaness. what do you ?

Ah.. look its superman !!!

I see a 5 year old kid shouting in sathyam , looking at the posters of the movie "The Dark Knight", and i just smile it off. Cute kid. I see a 25 year old gawking at the same poster and i am thinking, "alright, this is no sleazy chick poster, so this guy must've been a good fan of batman in his younger days". And then I see a 50 year old enquiring at the ticket counter about the movies release and i am asking myself ,"Batman!! Really ??!! " .
Guys have this strange attaction towards the superhero movies. Atleast MOST of them i know do. Guess this is one common liking that they seem to inherit from their forefathers. And i have always been quite curious to know what is it about these comic book turned hollywood superheros/movies they like. Sadly, all the answers that i seem to get from them would be
"I like super/spider/bat man. Whats not to like ?"
"Well, They are our childhood heros. ( Sounds more to me like "fantasies" than "heros" :-) !! )"
"Comic books were okay. Movies are cool."
"Dont bother. You are a girl."
etc etc ...
It is interesting though, how these so called tough, macho, young,'I'm cool' breed of men actually think some random guy flying in the sky with zero fashion awareness would glide away to catch a falling aeroplane and land it safe. These are the very guys who you usually find reviewing movies like Harry potter's and Star Trek's and Enchanted and the likes of disney productions. According to them, its fine when a 30 something man with his underwear's worn out bashes a 100 million bad guys and saves the world but its virtually a crime watching a boy on his broomstick bring out magic of a wand. Yeah, It must be really hard to like Harry potter !!
And guys, before you blare about the fact that there ARE so many girls out there who do like catching up on these superhero movies, let me give you a piece of wisdom - believe me its got squat to do with saving the world or the superhero stunts. Its either mostly the man who plays the hero or the unique act of impressing their beau by showing off their "I like what you like" attitude. *smiles*
Well, I do realise that i have already wounded a lot of "manly" hearts out there by writing this stuff about superman or spidey or watever. But i had to do what i did because i was just SO shocked to see a #1 place for the recent batman release "The Dark Knight" in imdb. I am a great fan of the site ,owing to its remarkable reviews and synopsis and ratings of the movies. I do not approve of the fact that a movie that is mostly liked and relished by only a section of the people should be considered for the top spot irrespective of the fact that the movie is incredibly brilliant. A 25,000 vote count doesn't decide the best is all i'm trying to say. Peace.

The Police Story & The Black Media...

Posted by Dpka at 10:27 PM 0 comments
She writes...

Seriously, what went wrong ? It could've been just another twin murder case. It could've easily vanished into those thick lumps of dusty files. Yet, It blew up. Blew up to be one of the most scandalous cases ever. One that made the Indian Judicial system look like a complete farce in front of its people. One, which will not be forgotten for a LONG time...

I opened my idiot box on May 16th to see the headlines flashing about an yet another teenage murder case. Didn't pay much attention to the details, as i was by now getting used to the words like "Murder","Abused","Teenage" and "Noida" being flashed on the screen an infinite number of times. Finding myself being served the same news in almost all the channels that whole day, i decided to finally hear the news. Yes, there's a beautiful 13 yr old Arushi, and then there's the domestic servant, Hemraj who is not around. Giving the perfect plot for our favorite news channels (!!!) to go on and make a nice tale and treat it to the millions who innocently watch them.
Plot #1 : Hemraj abused Arushi and later murdered her.
Plot #2 : Hemraj and Arushi had it rough for a long time and one night Hemraj kills Arushi to take revenge !
Plot #3 : Hemraj and Arushi had an affair. ( Most disgusting of 'em all)

And then, there's a constable who accidently happens to catch one of these headlines flashing on screen and recites it to his superiors. They find it quite convincing and probably decide to pick one of 'em and take credit for the brilliant storyline themselves, leaving sector 25 without giving a slightest thought to look around , lest they find something like , say "Hemraj's DEAD BODY on the terrace" !!!!! They obviously settled for the easier and lazier option.
It couldn't have gone worse for the UP police when the neighbour's of the Talwar's had to show them the way to the terrace to find the body. I was shocked with these turn of events. A case that was treated like an ordinary murder suit took a complete U-turn. UP Police just proved themselves to be a Joke to the public.
ENTER Media. The workstations of these news channels must've announced some prize money for the guys who come up with the most convincing and thrilling story for the Talwar case. Everyone put their sherlock caps on. With some help from our most trusted police fraternity of UP, I don't think they had much pressue in coming up with a deluge of plots.
Plot #4: Rajesh Talwar ( Father of Arushi) was drunk and he murdered Arushi.
Plot #5: Rajesh Talwar had a row with Arushi about her relationships with Hemraj . Hemraj tries to protect Arushi from Rajesh hurting her and hence ends up being the bait himself.
Plot #6: The vice-versa of plot #5. Arushi sees Rajesh killing Hemraj and ends up with the same fate.
Plot #7: Rajesh Talwar had an affair with friend and colleague Anita Durani . Arushi knew about this. Rajesh killed her. Later, Hemraj.
Plot #8: Rajesh and Nupur ( Mother of Arushi ) plan the murder. (The most ridiculous of the lot.)

I was exhausted seeing this whole lot of crap coming out of media and Police everyday. It was over a month now. Rajesh arrested. No sign of any improvements in the case. The "Whodunnit" question swimming forever. Although, i have to admit . The media and the stories from the Police almost got me to believe that something was wrong about the father. Yes, not a surprise. Most of us did. That's the sheer power of media. Damn it. With all the hype and hoopla, we had nothing to doubt.
Just when things were getting to dry, We got the CBI in. (Somehow in India, we have them at the right time in the right place. ) And things started to unravel. And today, on July 12th, after 50 days of physical and mental torture, the father is released. Does the media even understand what it is to spend 50 DAYs in the Jail ? Can they replace the wounds of the bloody torture ? What does the UP police and media have to say now ?
Apologise ??

Mr.Talwar, Sue them for God's sake. We don't need such insensitive media and those extremely incompetent lot in the UP Police community.

I open my inbox after ages. Curious and excited to check some nice-sweet nothings mail from my long lost friends. Alas, all i find is a bunch of c-mails* - random orkut notifications, free sms registration invites, network sites invite, c-mails from music sites i registered a decade ago and bla bla. I scroll past 'em and suddenly i find a name which is not exactly english and neither would i call it Indian. I mean, i am not even sure if it was a word. The subject says "Hi deepika" . Excitement mounts. "Wow", I say to myself, " It must be her new id, she's mailing after so long.. ". Smiling to myself i open the mail and Voila! - Refer above.

I just have one query.
Does the mail qualify to be a pick up line(s) ???

He's the man from earth - 2

When i wrote the blog "He's the man from earth" , little did i know it was going to be read by the producer of the movie Mr.Eric D.Wilkinson himself !! :-)
With all due respect to him and all the technicians who worked in the movie, I certainly didn't intend to steal their thunder. On the contrary, I loved the movie so much that i wouldn't stop without filling a blog about this movie. Long ago, when i did create a blog for myself, the one thing that i took an oath was for the fact that i'd never write reviews for any movie and never turn my blog into an advertisement portal.

But alas, the inevitable happened !! I saw this movie. Evidently, this movie is one of those very very few movies that i liked, enjoyed and savoured in ages. Its clearly a masterpiece. And so, i had to write about the movie without reviewing it.

The strength of this movie was its screenplay and the strong storyline. The story had everything. So i thought, why not present the story in a different yet very subtle way( nevertheless committing to everyone that it WAS Jerome Bixby's script in the first place) .
In fact, i got this idea from my friend. Incidently, I asked him if he had seen this movie ( knowing that he is for one, who's certainly what they call a "movie" buff !!! ) . He said NO (Shockingly!!!) . And that's it. All set to write the blog (Remember, Not a review, just a blog ) .
Friends, those who enjoyed reading my blog, please do get hold of this movie. Its million times more exciting than the blog itself . Trust me.

And lastly, Thank you pavan for giving me the movie. :-)

He's the man from earth.

She writes...
She writes about a "he" for the first time. She's excited, Don't bother.

So 'He' is a man from earth. A man who's lived for 14000 years. He is a Cro-Magnon caveman who survives untill the present day. He has seen the world deepen into a warmer planet from the cold sphere that it once used to be. As a cavemen, he saw his three generations die but he lived. It was sometime around 35 where his aging stopped. The herd was worried, they thought he was sucking up the souls of the other men and living his own. (The famous vampire theory). They chased him away from the herd. He moved on, towards the setting sun, exactly what he did the next whole century. Back in the 15th century, he had a chance to sail with Christopher Columbus. He was also one among the many who believed that columbus was a nut job when he argued the world was spherical and not rectangular. He was sometimes afraid that when they reach some farthest land (the edge of the rectangle) , they were going to tip off and fall into the vast space. He grew as the civilisation grew. Ideas changed, people started growing food instead of gathering them, raising animals instead of hunting them, fishing. Growth. Civilisation.

He moved on to be Jacques Borne, a good friend of Van Gogh. He realised that he had only 10 years to survive in a group after which people would start noticing that he wasn't aging. He fashioned John as his name. He moved on from one group to another learning languages wherever he went, living only 10 years and moving on.
John was once a Sumerian for 2000 years, then a Babylonian under Hammurabi, and finally in his quest towards the east became a disciple of Gautama Buddha. It is under Buddha he learnt many many philosophies of life. Buddha always knew there was something about John. John was a true disciple and stayed with Buddha untill his death, after which 'He' moved on. Changing names, sometimes faking his own death, pretending to be his own son. He simply lived.

John never believed in one religion. He had seen SO many of them. As a cavemen, he remembers looking up always wondering someone up there was creating all of this down here. But, as he moved from one civilisation to another, he refused to believe in an Omnipresent all-knowing God. Kings were God's , Stones were God's , Nature was God. Everyone everywhere had(has) a new version of God.
Did he know any Biblical figure ? Was he one of 'em ? Yes.
Guessing Moses ? No. Moses was just a myth crafted after a Syrian mythological figure. The Bible text? large parts of fairytales and myths with a touch of Hebrew. John knew this. The world was shattered with the new rising Kings, War and threat beleaguered. He had enough. He wanted to change. He was the man who taught the people the teachings of what he had learnt in his hardships, his life and people started following him, worshipping him. And...
He was Christ.

(No offence intended to any religion or any beliefs. Only believers read on. )

Jesus/John wasn't nailed to a cross. He was tied to it. He never died , but merely stopped his breath and controlled the body processes, something that he had long learnt in India (Yoga, it is). They thought he was dead. Put him inside the cave, and when he tried to escape without being noticed, little did he know that there were followers still waiting outside. Thus , Jesus was resurrected. He saw the Bible take forms from the Old Testament to the New. The OT according to John is a book that sells fear and guilt but he was glad that the NT was written with a positive touch, with more of good ethics to follow. John was only committed to teach the people of what he learnt in his life, his philosophies and spread goodwill. Even, Jesus failed !

He lives, lives to this day to see how the world has rapidly succumbed to the human desires. HE moves on. He is one among us. He could be a farmer, a scientist, a professor, a doctor, an archeologist, Anything. John can not go back to where he was, everything has changed.

LOL is not COOL !!!

Posted by Dpka at 6:38 PM 4 comments
She txts !!
Tis b'cum 2 diffi 4 me 2 undrstd dis new 'Englis'. A new lang wher a 5 letter wrd b'cums a 4 letter word. A lang wher "be" b'cums "b" , "see" b'cums "c", "you" b'cums "u". A lang wher words mysteriously take da numeric form; "for" b'cums "4" , "ate" b'cums "8" ! Sumtimes al u find r jus acronyms; "ttyl" is actually "talk to you later", "gtg" is "Got to go" !

I find this new trend of typos extermely annoying. I understand that this fashion in writing has come into practice mainly because of the deluge in the SMS industry. The number of pages you type in for messaging accounts for the amount you pay. But, isnt that ages ago ? Thankfully, the older schemes were slashed and we ended up with free texting. Still, the practice prevails.
And the most disturbing fact about this is that the new English has become a craze with the young. Its there everywhere. E-mails, Internet Chat, Classroom writing, Blogs, every damn place which you would associate with writing. And when i do complain, they say "chillax, its just cool" . Dear, Its not cool to meddle with a language and make it sound stylish. Thats precisely what the Americans did and now, "Going to" is a lost phrase. "I'm gonna go to the school ma" Says a 5- yr old. Ha!
Fine, i'll rest with words like "gonna" and "wanna". They are after all new additions in the dictionary! But, whats with these typo's people? You can not get away with "sry" and "tc". I hate it when people text me "TC" or "SRY" . It just makes me understand that it is not meant the way it is actually supposed to. After all, the writer is being lazy even to get the message across correctly. I know i might sound crazy with all these radical thoughts, but what's the blog for anyway ?
Its not just these words that are whacky, often you hear people saying " Hows u? " !! Now, whats that ? They have started picking on the grammer too? Girls are being referred to as "DUDE" ! Its funny when a "Joey" or a "shaggy" says it, yeah! But, you peck it right away and use it, Neah!
I was revolting these thoughts for a long time but ultimately i've succumbed to the changes. As is said, Change is permanent. I still loathe the typo's and try not to ever use them in my writing and i obviously prefer that in turn, but alas!
Don't try to ape the language styles from the west guys. Its really not COOL !

I Dont Care...

Posted by Dpka at 9:43 PM 2 comments
She writes...
I've started saying "I Dont Care" too often. And its not something i picked up from the chipy chips girl from that advertisement aired ages ago. I really dont seem to care about anything these days. It just happens to be my impulsive response to anything that happens around me. And lets leave the quintessential relationships related "care" out of this ( Like, "I care for you friend" bla bla ) . The 'care' am talking in here is just mere acknowledgement of the happenings around you. There's a power cut, I don't care. My system's kaput, I don't care. A friend's b'day, I don't care. Super Kings lose another match, I don't care. Prince Caspian in theatres, I don't care. Oh, Its may 22nd, I DON'T CARE !!!!
Get the idea! I just fail to understand what it is that has led to this numbness of mine. 'Cause believe me, all the things that i've mentioned above get me all hyper and charged . The zest with which i would await every single day is immeasurable and NOW i'm just slogging through my days. In the depths of my despair i've reached to an extent of not even being perturbed by the (scorching, it is said!) heat. Every day has become the same day.
Why ? I ask. What is this mystery ? Why should i stop reacting ? Why have i not been writing a blog roaring about the cheerleaders or the slapleaders ? Why have i stopped responding to my text messages ? Why have i not checked my mail ? What is my password ? Is it feb 30th ?

Yes, Ennui kills. It really does.

Inaction - An interesting answer!

Posted by Dpka at 9:59 PM 2 comments
She writes...
There's this article in "The Week" by Patricia Cohen that i happened to come across recently. It was titled "Inaction vs action" . Now, as simple as that sounds i've got to admit one of main reasons that i started to read along was to find what exactly was the competition between action and inaction anyway! Inaction simply means a state of being inactive and action - you know.
Being opposites by convention, they do attract a fancy "VS" between 'em but pragmatically speaking inaction doesn't stand a chance with action as a competitor. Especially when in a problamatic situation. Confused!
Well, lets take an example. The penalty kick in a game of soccer. There's the striker and the goalie. Almost 90% of the goalie's leap to the exact opposite direction to the striker's attact eventually missing the chance. Now, thats action. The success rate of the striker is way higher than that of the goalie(for penalty kicks). What happens when the goalie stays in the centre and grabs the advantage of the 0.2-0.4 second of time taken by the ball to travel to him. I know thats humanly impossible to even think of taking a decision in the given modicum of time. But, But instead of jumping to the wrong direction and missing the goal he could as well take a try staying at the centre. Thats Inaction. ( okay folks, Chak de climax is not exactly what i'm talking about. We had the all powerful srk standing just right beside the captain girl who again could catch his signals so correctly. wonder! )
Hard to comprehend, yeah. And being a completly ignorant soccer player myself, i might be wrong with the technical aspects of penalty kicks. But, think about it taking no action in a situation your iffy about is a much safer bet than doing something and making no worth of it.
I do agree the latter has the benefit of judgement cause they have obviously taken an "action" in a troubled situation aganist the ones who perferred to stay still. And a typical social mind would appreciate the lad for trying something even though it did no good to anyone. Consider a wider aspect of the such situations , Business. We've seen loads of analysts who involve in decision making taking a wrong turn and failing. Penalty kicks are part of the game. But, Money matters. Given a problem, a tricky one in business, What does a normal man do ? He takes a decision, he has to. He tries to get a solution that will firstly make him look a smarty because he's got a plan unlike his quieter colleagues and secondly he always has an excuse for trying to attempt to solve the case . Does it solve the issue or not is secondary, surprisingly ! So, assume the decision goes wrong. Its got to cost a lot of money and loss to the organisation but nobody complains about the guy. "He ATLEAST tried" is all what you'll hear. But, the point is, the devastation could have been saved had he not chosen to take the sort of the decision where he is uncertain about the outcomes in the first place. People in core business and soccer players are those guys who really need to master the art of decision making. Also, Decision making has always been a popular lesson for budding professionals. But much less is talked about Inaction. Inaction - That's what people need sometimes. Its not a norm to always make a decision. Give it a break and use your chances wisely to chose between Inaction and action. So there you've, Inaction Vs Action! :-)

Hungry kya ?

Disclaimer : This post certainly does not consider the most favorite road side banquets so you can save your comments on that! And it does not intend to offend any of you gourmets out there who've conflicting ideas on eateries.

How hard is it to find a good eatery in chennai ?
It was a sunday and a gang of friends are meeting up after decades. So they decide on an eat out (you know talk-talk, chop-chop! ) and all they wanted was a good restaurant with good food and good ambience. Now, thats where the problem begins !! There's lot of "Good" in there. Too much to ask for in a metropolis eh ? There were some constraints, Yeah . It had to be a mixed table with Non-veg and Veg , it had to have a classic and a creative menu, destination not too far( you dont want to get to your tables when your over your hunger !! ) and not to forget a reasonable price to pay. Everyone had ideas, so they sit to zero in on one and what do they end up doing ? Arguing for over an hour just to realise that the talk was going nowhere !!
Sad, they decided on Food court's . May be, the one in spencer's. But you know, you dont want too many people there lining up to grab your table even before you finish your meal ! So thats done. And if you were looking out for some nice dhaba, you are sure enough not to find a place comfortable enough for a group of 7 on a sunday afternoon. Even if you did, lets just say not worth the wait ( come on, its the same ol chappati's n mutter for gods sake! ). Dont even get started on the quintessential south indian outlets... right when you make yourself comfortable and start catching up with your friends you suddenly hear a pouty face announcing " sirr BILL " , more like an invitation to leave. Being a gang that had some sensible minds , the idea of pizza corners and huts was eliminated as soon as it was mentioned. So that leaves Chinese and the likes. Whoa, chinese...
It was half past 1 and all of them could sense strange bowel movements . Two of them put their foot down and ordered on Wang's Kitchen, Nungambakkam (Chinese) . There were veto's. It was certainly not a great decision but it seemed like their only final hope cause almost half of them gave up. So everyone scoots to the kitchen and Voila! Not bad at all. They actually had a great time. Atleast the ambience was great and they werent asked to vacate soon. And food, hmm.
So if you are one of those crazy foodies, the next time you ask yourself "hungry kya?" make sure you are prepared to enjoy a complete analysis of the eat outs in chennai !

A.R.Rehman's Magnum Opus.

She Writes...
Jodha Akbar :- Jashn-e-Bahara
Beautiful is the word ! A.R.Rehman's magnum opus... truly!!
Its been a while since i've liked a bollywood song so much. I donno what it is about this song that gets me all dreamy. Is it the music or the scene or the magical duo playing Akbar n Jodha or is it the voice , I never know !?! I'll hear it a thousand and one times and i'll still not get enough of this one. Who is this Javed Ali ? Where the hell has he been all this while when we were being tortured by Reshmaiya and his likes showing off the skills of their Olfactory organs! May be Ali is not a famous singer, but this song would've been incomplete without the man. And its not just him, the Javed's are ruling the song. Just have look at the lyrics:

"Pass hain phir bhi paas nahi,Humko yeh gum raas nahi . Seeshe ki ek diware hai jaise darmiya..
Sare sehmein nazare hain,Soye soye vaqt ke dhare hain. Aur dil mein koi khoye si baatein hain..
Milke bhi hum milte nahi,Khilke bhi gul khilte nahi. Aankhon mein hai baharein dil mein khiza.."

Absoultly flawless lyrics by Javeed Akhtar. A marvellous piece of poetry that beautifully unfolds the love between the king and the queen. Speaking of King and Queen, who could you better imagine to perform the song than Hrithik and Aishwarya. Personally, I've never been a great fan of Aishwarya Rai. But this movie, this song is an exception. I'm in total awe for the lady. She's just too good yaar. Look at the scene where the Queen walks alongside the King , meddling the chain and taking a sneak look at her husband smiling to herself. And the King relishing every momemt of his walk with the lady love. And the lines go :
"Karte to hai saath safar,Faasle hain phir bhi magar. Jaise milte nahi kisi dariya ke do kinare.."
And the scene where both of them sit in the Quadrangle in the Queen's chamber feeding the pigeons... Could it be more beautiful ? :-) And again the lines are :
"Milke bhi hum milte nahi....Khilke bhi gul khilte nahi...."
I could just go on and on about the song and every frame of it, thats how much this song deserves or may be even more. An excellent art work by Ashutosh Gowarikar. Only he could've carried such a huge responsibility of trying out an epic movie and also succeed in making it click. Kudos to the guy !
Finally, the man himself. A.R.Rehman! What is he ? God ?! We are done praising him and applauding him for his compositions years ago , but the man never stops. ( We dont want him to anyway :-) !! ) Hats off to A.R.R. If year 2007 saw a beautiful "Ey hairathey" from guru , We've already found the winner for 2008. Its undoubtedly "Jashn - e- bahara" !!

Enough is enough !!!

"Na-ah, No Jeans to college. No orange shirts. No Dance. No Music. No Boy-Girl talk! No Cell Phones. No Food, water or Air ! "

Seriously, how much is too much ? When people start saying "No" too many times isnt it right to scream the same word back to them ?! Get into the mind of a local engineering college student, all you hear is "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!" . You would be just lucky to make your way back to the sane world. Sometimes when in college it just feels like your thrown back into the days when making fire out of stones was worth a noble prize! So what if a college student wants to wear a jean to college ? OH no no , that must be crime ! Just try and break the issue to pieces. One, A student whos fed up all his life wearing uniforms to school wants to break free. Two, A pair of Jean is practically what a guy owns . Three, What is the big deal in trying to bridge a college student's likes of the dress he wants to wear to college and the so called "Moral values" !!! I dont really get the math ?!

So, We are young engineers. If wearing a pair of jean and T-Shirt to college is a sin why would you spot the MNC guys wearing the same? Aren't they Engineers ( Minus 'young'! ) . If this was the misery the guys had to face , let me not even get started about the fate of girls !

"Girl girl talk, boy boy talk, but NO boy girl talk." Famous words from a famous man. Are these people trying to train their lot about a totally different genre of relationships ? Excuse me for being too open there. But isnt that too ridiculous a statement ( Forget the english for gods sake !) ? Where is this culture heading ? If you refrain a guy from interacting with his girl classmate , its not gonna make him a saint. Since when have these so called college authorities started taking control over those vicious hormones ? Its funny you know, One hand they try teaching us stuff thats called "Technology" and on the other hand its all about "life on earth a 100 years back". And above all, they expect us to believe all this is doing good to us. Please, gimme a break !

Internetisation!

This is not going to be an yet another write up blaring on about how Internet has taken over the world and how things have changed for ever ( which is true by the way! ) . Seriously, Not being able to check your mails for 2 straight days just leaves you isolated. Call it addiction to technology or whatever, you just can't deny the fact that Internet has made a mark in our daily lives.
When was the last time you looked into a book to find information about ancient pyramids of Egypt ! Or when was the last time you tried going to the theatre to book tickets for your weekend movie ! These activities are simply termed "abnormal". Who's to blame anyway ? You would certainly be opted out if you wanted to check out Saawariya in the theatres rather than downloading it from some site. WebCam and Internet phone are stale now , GenNext studies planets on the net. For all the duds out there wincing at the very mention of 'study', we've got the famous messengers to keep you hooked on to the system for hours ! In fact, half the population that uses Internet everyday thrives on these chat services. Come on, its gotta be interesting. Guy has a "cooldude4you" kinda Id and Girl has this "sweetangel" kinda Id, it just leaves him wondering if she was Katrina Kaif (!!)in disguise long after she's logged outta messenger!
As if this was not enough we've got the Social networking sites now. Go on, Make Internet your home. A year n half ago, i met this long lost buddy of mine in a library ( worth a mention rt! ) and after the intital 'how are you?' talk he pops out a question that sounded all alien to me : " You into orkut ? " . And now after two years, my mail checking routine has extended onto checking 'scraps' too. Its not like i hate doing so, Orkut has made me get in touch with a friend whom i had lost contact for almost 10 years! Come on, i gotta be grateful for that rt ?

Girls talk..

Posted by Dpka at 10:45 AM 12 comments

She writes...

Internetisation - Use it , Love it n Live it.

So, after repeated attempts at creating myself a blog , here i am getting myself a far too stylish profile! Reading blogs is the second best thing i do when am totally bored here on the net ( the first is not "orkutting" ) . Well, This sure does seem fun. Tryin to write absoulte crap when you have nothing much to do. And the best part is am not even sure if am good at writing crap! I guess i'l have to just wait n see for myself. :-)
